Apple grower raises slogan against government and demanded immediate payment for the fruit procured by government agencies under market intervention scheme (MIS) last year. Protest led by the Himachal Pradesh Apple Growers Association that is held at Narkanda, Theog, Manali, Kotkhai, Karsog and in Shimla. Under the MIS scheme, government agencies HPMC and HIMFED had procured large quantities of fruit from the growers in 2010 and government agencies haven’t paid to the growers. Rakesh Singha said that “We demand that famers be given payment immediately for the crop bought in the autumn of 2010”. The leaders also submitted a memorandum addressed to the chief minister through the deputy commissioner’s office. Himachal Pradesh Apple Growers Association also demanded compensation for the damage of crops by hail.
