The Congress high command announces candidates for by-elections that are scheduled to be held on November 30. Congress cleared Vinay Kumar son of deceased Dr Prem Singh from the Renuka seat and Lakhwinder Rana from the Nalagarh seat. Earlier, Lakhwinder was in the BJP, but contested the 2003 Assembly poll as an Independent after being denied the party ticket. He later joined the Congress and unsuccessfully contested the seat in the 2007 Assembly poll as its candidate.
