A deputation of Lahaul Potato Growers Cooperative Marketing-cum- Processing Society called on Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here today and thanked him for allocating Rs. 764 crore under Tribal Sub Plan in the budget for the year 2013-14.

Ravi Thakur, MLA, Lahaul–Spiti, who led the deputation, apprised the Chief Minister that 21000 potato seed bags of A and B grade could not be sold in the year 2011-12 due to serious marketing slump in the country.

The delegation said that the society sought financial assistance of Rs. 85 lakh under Marketing Intervention Scheme, so that the poor potato growers of the Lahaul could be helped. They also urged for Government Guarantee of Rs. 85 lakh for purchasing three new oil tankers to be funded by National Cooperative Development Corporation, New Delhi.

The delegation also apprised Chief Minister about other demands of the area. Chhetan Phunchog, Chairman, Lahaul Potato Growers Cooperative Marketing-cum- Processing Society and other Members of the society were present on the occasion. Another delegation of Buddhist Monks from Khungri Monastery of Pin Valley also called on Chief Minister and invited him to visit Pin Valley of Spiti area.
