The cash strapped Shimla Municipal Corporation urged the state government to review its decision to hand over the entire 1880.13 hectares of its forest area to the Forest Department.

The Shimla MC, in its monthly meeting, urged the government to return the entire forest area to it. It was in 2006 that the control and management of the entire forest area had been handed over from the MC to the Forest Department but later 843.91 hectares was returned to the MC.

The decision to hand over the entire forest area falling within the MC to the Forest Department was taken during the recent cabinet meeting.
