SJVN painting competition

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) organised a state-level painting competition in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the National Energy Conservation Campaign today in order to create awareness about energy conservation among school children. Governor Urmila Singh presided over the Prize distribution function at Rajbhawan here today.

About 3,90,621 students of 11,177 schools across the state participated in the competition out of which 50 participants each from senior and junior categories were selected for participating in the state level competition.

The topics for senior category were Practice Conservation–For future Generation, Conserve Energy – Protect Environment and Change for Better with Energy Star Label whereas Life is Energy, Conserve It, Saving Energy is nice-as it pays you price and Urja Bachao, Bhavishya Bachao were the topics for junior category.

Modak Verma adjusted first in the competition, Kanishk Chanjta second and Priyanka third prize in Group ‘A’. In the B Group, Chirag Sharma, Chhavi Sharma and Pooja Devi won first, second and third prize respectively.

Speaking on the occasion Urmila Singh stressed upon judicious consumption of energy and urged the young citizens to incorporate the same in their daily lifestyles. She said that energy conservation in our day today life would not only prove economical to us but would go a long way in saving energy and reduce fast depletion of our resources.

Underlining the importance of protecting environment, Governor said that environment friendly energy conservation methods should be adopted in order to minimize the effects of global warming. She said that using energy efficient devices in homes could reduce energy consumption and play an important role in energy saving. She asked to start awareness campaign to aware masses about energy saving. She said that children should be sensitized in schools and they could further participate in awareness campaigns in their localities, educational institutions etc and disseminate the message of energy conservation effectively on all platforms.

Governor also gave away cash prizes of Rs 10,000, 8000, 5000 and 20 consolation prizes of Rs 1000 to the winners of the painting competition.

She also honoured M L Azad, Joint Director Elementary Education and 31 Block Elementary Education Officers for their outstanding contribution in organizing the competition.

R.D. Dhiman, Principal Secretary Education welcomed the Governor. N.L. Sharma, Director Personnel SJVN detailed out the aims and objectives of the awareness campaign and the contribution of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam in the power sector. A.K.
