BJYM Parliament gherao agitation turns violent- Protesters arrested

Hundreds of activists of BJP’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) marched from Ramlila ground to Parliament as part of their “Parliament gherao” agitation against government’s alleged inaction in handling corruption. At Ramlila maidan senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitly and BJYM chief Anurag Thakur addressed the activists.

Activists were demanding the immediate removal of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for her alleged involvement in the CWG scam. And pretest became ugly when Anurag Thakur was addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar; a group of protesters tried to jump the barricades and reached the outer gate of Parliament complex. Then police prevented protesters and spurned by it protesters started hurling stones and throwing bottle and sticks at police and then police lathi-charge the protesters. It’s reported that several activists including BJYM national president Anurag Thakur were injured in the clash. Protesters were taken to Parliament Street police station. Anurag Thakur said that police has bitten protesters brutally. He alleges that they crossed all limits. Son of horticulture minister, Chetan Singh Bragta is also arrested along with the protesters. Chetan said that they all are arrested for protesting peacefully. Around 25 thousands BJYM members from Himachal were taking part in this protest.
