Gaddi Tribal Development Committee demands tribal status for 21 panchayats

The All-India Gaddi Tribal Development Committee is mulling to approach the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to grant the tribal status to 21 non-tribal panchayats which fall in the Bharmour Assembly constituency of Chamba district, if the government failed to do so.

Lalit Thakur president Gaddi Tribal Development Committee said it after the meeting that was held at the Circuit House. President added that the people of these non-tribal panchayats were deprived of those benefits which had been provided by the government to tribals in the country. He also said that there are only four senior secondary schools in these 21 panchayats and all are facing acute shortage if teaching staff.
