A new Quality Control mechanism has been enforced into the Public Works Department in order to ensure better quality and durability in works under taken by the Department. Public Works Minister Thakur Gulab Singh discloses it while presiding over the meeting with the senior officers of the Department.

Minister said that all the works costing over Rs 30 lakh and above would be inspected during the execution at-least twice by the concerned Executive Engineer (Quality Control) posted at the Zonal level. He said that additional final inspection would be done by the concerned Superintending Engineer when the work is nearing completion. He said that this decision have been taken to determine the acceptance of work and finalization of bill of the concerned contractor/agency executing the work.

Public Works Minister said that these guidelines would help in detecting deficiencies in the work, if any and take corrective steps accordingly. He said that this would ensure that the work executed is completed as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) specifications. He said that this would also ensure that the work done is satisfactory and any deviation from the prescribed scope of work is justified. He said that necessary directions have been issued to the field officers to withheld payment of the contractors in case the work was graded unsatisfactory or required improvement. He said that concerned Executive Engineer/Divisional Accountant of the Division would be held responsible for non-compliance of these guidelines. A.K.Bhardwaj, Chief Engineer (Quality Control) and other senior officers of the department attended the meeting.
