PTA teachers were appointed about 4 years ago and till now there isn’t any policy for them. Most of the PTA teachers are highly qualified; however they are getting remuneration of laborers in the State. PTA teachers were appointed by the previous Virbhadra Singh Government and since then they have been fighting for their rights.

PTA teachers are demanding better pay scale and other basic facilities, which other regular teachers are getting. Assembly elections are due next year and sensing the opportunity, these PTA teachers have intensified their agitation and threatened to gherao the state assembly during its winter session next month at Tapovan, near Dharamsala, if the state government fails to accept their demands.

PTA teachers have demanded Chief Minister’s intervention in the matter. Meanwhile, leaders of PTA teachers said that the teachers from Kangra district would meet on November 30, at the Police Grounds in Dharamsala to chalk out their future strategy for the agitation.
