Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed that all electors of Nalagarh and Renuka Assembly Constituencies, who have been issued with their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), shall have to produce these cards to exercise their franchise when they come to the polling stations for voting on 30th November 2011. He said that Identity cards issued by the Electoral Registration Officer of another Assembly Constituency shall be taken into account while establishing the identity of electors. The Commission has further directed that if any elector fails to produce his/her EPIC, such electors shall have to produce any of the alternative photo documents which includes, Passports, Driving Licence, Income Tax Identity ( PAN ) Cards, Service Identity Cards issued to its employees by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Local Bodies or Public Limited Companies with photographs, Passbooks issued by Public Sector Banks/ Post Office and Kisan Passbooks with photograph (accounts opened on or before 31-10-2011), Freedom Fighter Identity Cards with photograph, SC/ST/OBC Certificates issued by competent authority with photograph (issued on or before 31.10.2011), Certificate of Physical Handicap having photograph issued by the Competent Authority on or before 31-10-2011, Arms License having photograph issued on or before 31-10- 2011, Job Cards issued under the MNREGA scheme with photograph issued up to 31-10-2011.

Property Documents such as Pattas Registered Deeds etc. with photograph and Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment Order, ex-servicemen’s Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, and Widow Pension Order with photograph (issued upto 31-10-2011). Similarly, Health Insurance Scheme Smart Cards with photograph (Ministry of Labour’s Scheme, issued upto 31-10-2011 may be used as the alternative identity documents.

Narinder Chauhan informed that any of the above mentioned documents that was available only to the head of the family may also be used for identifying the other members of the family provided all members come together and are identified by the head of the family. Shri Chauhan appealed to all the electors to take note of these directions of Commission and bring their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) or any one of the alternative photo documents on Poll day i.e. 30th. November, 2011.
