Himachal Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, Urmila Singh has stressed the need of concentrating on all round development and empowerment of the students and called upon the university teachers not to keep themselves limited to teach the particular subject but should try at the maximum to inculcate social and human values. She was presiding over 24th meeting of the University Court here today.

Urmila Singh said that the University teachers have a challenge to work for a society wherein they have to ensure equality, prosperity with academic wisdom. She said that the youth have major role to play in this regard for complete transformation.

The Chancellor said that social disparity is in existence in the society and the women has taken a lead after fighting out all the odds and had emerged as a torch bearer for other sections of the society. She said that the other under privileged and deprived section of the society should also take a message from the women for equal and complete development of the society.

Governor exhorted the university authorities to increase their domestic receipt with the help of the various research projects which should be made a continuous process, she added. She further said that the money being provided to the university under the various budgetary heads and schemes should be properly used for the maximum results.

The Chancellor highlighted the role of the RTI and called upon the officers and employees to work in line with provisions of the act so that there are very less litigations in the courts. She said that there is an urgent need of dealing promptly with the pending audit paras and if any pendency must be dealt with immediately. She directed the university administration to convene the meeting of the University court atleast once in a year.

Earlier Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.D.N.Bajpai welcomed the Chancellor and highlighted the main features of the Golden Jubilee Document (Vision-2020). He said that after 1971 the university has prepared an ambitious and pragmatic plan for complete education transformation in different Departments. He thanked the Chancellor for her guidance and patronage of the University.

The university court unanimously elected Dr. R.P.Luthra for Dental Council of India and Dr. S.S.Kaushal for Medical Council of India. The court also approved the annual account and audit reports of the University for the Year 2006-07 and 2007-08 and annual report of the university for the year 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Executive Council members Prof. N.S.Bisht, Chaudhary Waryam Singh Bains, Local MLA Sh. Suresh Bhardwaj besides Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Birma Chauhan both court members and Prof. Laxman Singh Thakur also spoke about the problems of the university and apprised the Chancellor of the financial health as well as acute shortage of teaching and non-teaching staff. They also advocated for making Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (UGC Centre of Excellence) an integral part of the University and it should not be closed for want of funds as the University have plan to expand the offline campus and to open more need based departments. They also pointed out that the said Institute has done commendable research work in the given area. Chancellor, Smt. Urmila Singh assured all possible help from the Red Cross so far as the disabled friendly facilities are concerned at the campus.

Dr.Shrikant Baldi, Principal Secretary (Finance), K.Sanjaymurti, Secretary (Education), Dr.O.P. Sharma, Director of Education, Anita Tegta, Secretary to Governor, Kripal Parmar, Ex M.P. and Professor Shashi Kant Sharma ‘Lomesh’ Registrar were also present at the occasion.
