Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said that cultural heritage of a nation represents its collective identity and preserving it instills pride in the people besides strengthening social cohesion. He was speaking in a function ‘Anandam’ organized by the Art of Living Foundation Shimla and Language, Art and Culture Department jointly to mark the beginning of the Hindu New Year Vikrami Samwat 2069 here last evening.

Chief Minister said that Indian Civilization was one of the ancient and acknowledged world wide for its richness and unique heritage. He said that our cultural and traditional values, rich knowledge of Vedas, Yoga and Ayurveda have recognition world over and the Indian culture as a whole has secured a unique place in the world.

Prof Dhumal said that in order to protect our distinct identity we should try to relive the glory of past by making genuine efforts to nurture our culture and heritage. He said that ignoring our values under the influence of western culture could destroy the nation and urged the people to impart these to the young generations for their preservation.

He lauded the celebration of Hindu New Year as a praiseworthy effort to uphold our culture and added that the occasion marks the onset of spring and was a harbinger of hope and happiness. Ghanshyam Das, Apex Chairman, Art of Living Foundation, Shimla welcomed the Chief Minister and detailed about the activities of the foundation. Gautam Dabir, Renowned Singer presented Bhajans on the occasion.

Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA, Ganesh Dutt, Vice Chairman HIMUDA, Onkar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. S.S. Kaushal Principal IGM , Prominent persons of the town and Members of the Art of Living Foundation were present on the occasion.
