Sudripto Roy, IAS of 1978 batch and presently Additional Chief Secretary, Forests, Environment, Science and Technology and Officer on Special Duty, Monitoring and Coordination, Government of Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as new Chief Secretary of the State. He succeeds Harinder Hira who retires today.

Prior to it, Sudripto Roy has held important assignments in Government of India and State Government. He remained Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur and Kangra districts, Divisional Commissioner, Mandi, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Agriculture, Cooperation, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Technical Education, Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh. He also remained as Principal Secretary, Forests and Financial Commissioner, Appeals and Chairman, Appellate Authority.

Sudripto Roy has served in Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Regional Director, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Commissioner, Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textile, Government of India.

Roy also served as Secretary General, International Jute Study Group, Dhaka, Bangladesh for three years from 2007 to 2010. He took over as Additional Chief Secretary in the State on 1st March, 2011. Roy is M.Phil. in Public Administration from Punjab University and has done Post Graduation in History from H.P. University.
