To promote the IT education in Himachal, Education Minister ID Dhiman said that Govt will distribute 40,000 Akash tablets free of cost to the meritorious students. Minister announced it after inaugurating four rooms in the Hamirpur Government Senior Secondary School.

Minister said that IT has potential to generate employment and in the coming years State will need thousands of trained IT professionals, therefore it would be necessary to train students from school days. From this session IT education in 884 government schools would be introduced.

Dhiman said the state government had put education among the priority sectors of the state government and at present, 19 per cent of the state budget was being spent on education, which was the highest in the country.

He said the state was being developed into an education hub and quality educational institutes had been opened, like the Central University in Kangra, HP Technical University and State Hotel Management Institute in Hamirpur, besides 11 private universities being opened in the state.
