Rakesh Verma shows interest in Chopal segment

Theog MLA Rakesh Verma can contest coming assembly election from Chopal segment. In a meeting with his supporters at Deha (Balson) his supporters urged him to fight election from Chopal as after delimitation his home region, which has 11 panchayats, is attached with Chopal constituency. Rakesh Verma has also responded positively, but refrained for making any clear decision. The meeting was attended by thousands of people from Balson and Chopal region.

Rakesh Verma is three time member of legislator from Theog segment and had defeated Congress stalwart Vidya Stokes in 1993 election on BJP ticket. However, he lost to her in 1998, but won the seat in 2003 and 2007 as an independent candidate from Theog. After delimitation, his 11 panchayats of Balson region of Theog districts was merged with Chopal for electoral only and these 11 panchayats were instrumental for his win over Congress candidates in the all previous election. Earlier Rakesh Verma had announced to fight election from Theog, but in the Deha meeting, political waves seem to change in Chopal constituency.
