The State Government has decided to extend the period of fishing close season for another fifteen days from 1st August to 15th August, 2012 to facilitate the fish breeding in the State reservoirs.

A Spokesperson of the State Government said here today that the decision had been taken keeping in view the current failure of the monsoon and sharp drop in the water level of the State reservoirs. He said that these conditions had raised serious concerns about the future landings of the reservoir fisheries in the State since this was the only source of livelihood of around 4000 fisherman families. He added that rains were essential for inducement of fish breeding and the delay in monsoon was likely to result in the failure of breeding. Therefore, the State Government had taken a decision to extend the period o fishing close season by another fifteen days in the State.
