Several Gobind Sagar Fishing Cooperative Societies working in the district have urged the government and the state Fisheries Department to extend the ban on fishing by at least another 15 days so that the Gobind Sagar fills up to its capacity and fish continue their regeneration and hatching.

This year there was very little rain in the Sutlej catchment area and therefore, there had been little hatching activity of fish and if the ban was lifted as scheduled on August 1, fishermen would face virtual starvation as there would be very little catch for them.
