Marathon on 30th September in Shimla

Principal Secretary, Youth services and Sports V.C. Pharka disclosed today that the YSS Department and Running and Living Infotainment Private limited, were jointly organising the 4th Shimla Running and Living Half-Marathon, Ultra-half Marathon and seven kilometers Run, on 30th September, 2012. He was presiding over the meeting with regard to organising the event successfully.

Pharka said that the theme for this year Marathon would be ‘Run for Health’and apart from senior citizens, representatives of the Army, Rotarians children from Sanawar, Doon School, Loreto Convent Tara Hall, BCS, Edwards and other local schools would be participating in the event. He said at present about 200 enthusiastic runners who had already registered from across the country and from Himachal.

Rahul S. Verghese CEO, Running and Living Infotainment Private Limited, Lokendar Chauhan, MD HPTDC, Dr. R.K.Gupta, CMO, Malok .S. Thakur, AC to DC, Shimla, Jugvir Singha, Joint Director, Information and Public Relations, S.K. Sharma, Deputy Director Horticulture, and officers of Police and Sports Department were present on the occasion to discuss the preparatory schedule, providing of medical facilities etc. during the event.

Rahul S. Verghese said that Half Marathon and Ultra Half Marathon would comprise of 21 Kms and 28 Kms respectively starting from the Ridge Maidan, Shimla on 30th September at 6.30 AM. He said that all runners would meet at Hotel Ashiana the Ridge for briefing on 29th September, 2012 at 9 AM. They will also be distributed the kits on the same day.

He said that the seven kms run would also start from the Ridge. Detailing the route of the run Verghese said that the participants of half marathon which is 21 kms, would pass through Oakover, Forest Hill road and past Raj Bhavan to Bedes chowk from where they would climb up on Jakhu Hill towards Indus, then to the Tibetan school in upper Sanjauli the Dental college Hostel, IGMC, Lakkar Bazar to finish at the Ridge. He added that it would be for the first time that the runners participating in Ultra half marathon would take an additional loop of Jakhu Hills which provides a tough, 28 kms course for the run which would finally culminate at Ridge.
