With its upcoming hydro projects 120 MW Miyar Hydro Electric Project on Miyar Nullah and 400 MW Seli Hydro Electric Project, on river Chenab in Lahual valley, Moser Baer Projects is making incessant efforts towards the overall development of the region. A large section of the local populace has come out in support of the projects for the multi-faceted benefits accruing in their region due to these hydro-power plants which are bound to generate employment, provide electricity for small and medium industrial units and light up the lives of the people. Apart from its ongoing corporate social responsibility activities, the company is focusing on initiatives which have a direct connect with the culture, social values and communal harmony of the valley.
For example, the recently concluded annual Tribal Fair at Keylong, Lahaul witnessed Moser Baer’s active participation. Keeping the practice alive, the company has also been contributing towards the popular Pauri Mela held at Trilokinath every year.
The company has been communicating to the villagers “You show us land, we will plant trees there” as part of its proactive drive towards creating and maintaining harmony with the environs. As an environmentally responsible Corporate, it has started voluntary plantation drive since August 2011. Out of the committed plantation of 10,000 trees, 4500 trees have already been planted in the project area with the support of locals.
This plantation drive is in addition to the compensatory afforestation program of the forest department in which 10,17,000 plants will be planted on 678 hectares (double the size of project area) for which the company will bear the cost as per the laid rules and procedures. This will ensure that the forest cover in the region will actually increase manifold.
Scholarships to meritorious students, libraries and resource centres, computer-literacy centres, health camps, support to existing local health units, celebration of all festivals of national and regional relevance, extra- curricular activities at local schools, support to Mahila and Yuvak Mandals with skill development workshops, etc. are some of the notable initiatives of the company which will blossom with fruitful benefits.
