Vice-Chancellor Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University (HPAU), Dr SK Sharma, said that the university had signed an MoU with various agricultural and non-agricultural universities of the country for the exchange of technology for the benefit of farmers.

He said this programme of the university would give exposure to university scientists so that they would serve farmers in a better way. In a press conference, Dr Sharma said the university would lay emphasis on the cultivation of basmati rice in the state. A variety of basmati rice known as “kasturi” would be developed, which was found quite suitable for cultivation in hilly regions of the country. He said preliminary studies revealed that the basmati rice would be another cash crop for farmers of the state as it had a great demand in foreign countries.
