Senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh met Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and discussed the party preparation for the forthcoming Assembly polls and the strategy to be adopted to bring the party back to power in the state. The meeting lasted for 25 minutes.

It is learned that Virbhadra Singh apprised Rahul Gandhi about the present scenario of the state and advised general secretary to field the best candidates for the poll. Singh said that “win-ability” should be the sole criterion to select a candidate for the party ticket.

Virbhadra Singh was allegedly sidelined in the state politics and he is trying everything possible to get greater say in the selection of party candidates and revamping of the poll camping committee and other party panels related to the elections. Virbhadra Singh is the tallest congress leader in state, but from last few years he is facing stiff competition from other senior leaders. Singh want party high-command to announce party leader before the poll, so that Uttarakhand like situation don’t arise in state after poll.
