Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Virbhadra Singh has again taken a dig at BJP led Govt and said that BJP Government citing awards as proof of development was merely a ploy to divert the public attention away from massive corruption of the State Government.

Virbhadra Singh said that it is ridiculous and laughable and extremely comic to see BJP national president Nitin Gadkari honouring Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal for having created Himachal Pradesh as a model for hill development for the rest of the country.

He said that the journey of development of Himachal Pradesh commenced way back in 1948 under Congress leadership. In 1948, there was no BJP in existence, RSS had no development agenda and Chief Minister was only four years old.

Singh said that 50 years later when Dhumal became Chief Minister in 1998, a resurgent and vibrant Himachal Pradesh had emerged on the national scene as a State in the top four states excelling in all indicators of Human Development Index.

Singh added that by the end of 1997, when Dhumal resume power is state an infrastructure based momentum was established under the Congress rule which led to a growth of eight per cent to nine per cent by sheer momentum.

Congress Government had worked long and hard for 50 years for making Himachal fourth most developed State in the whole country by 1997 from the third lowest least developed State in 1948.
