To end traffic congestion of Shimla city, Himachal and central government has initiated monorail project and has sent to Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) for their approval. If it gets green signal from DMRC, it will help to decongest from incessant traffic of the city. As per the plan monorail will connect Shimla city with nearby destinations like Shogi and Sanjauli and offer faster connectivity besides decongesting road traffic.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has discussed project proposal with central minister for urban development Kamal Nath in New Delhi on Saturday and central minister has directed DMRC to carry out a survey and prepare a feasibility report within six months. Sudhir Sharma, Himachal Urban Development Minister also accompanied the Chief Minister. This unique project will cost around Rs 5,000 crore and will be funded by the central government.

If it will get passed then it would be the first of its kind in a hilly State and Kamal Nath has assured the Chief Minister of full support to the State in sanctioning of this ambitious project.
