The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet at its meeting, presided by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has decided to allow opening of “Ahatas (designated drinking places)” in villages. The Cabinet made a decision to insert new provisions in the H.P. Liquor License Rules, 1986, for grant of Ahatha License in rural areas of the State.

As 80 percent of population of Himachal Pradesh lives in villages and by this Govt is hoping check illegal consumption of liquor in the wayside eateries and also looking to garner revenue from excise duty.
