Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that Mini Secretariat would be constructed at Sujanpur, so as to provide better facilities to people of the area so that they may be able to get their works done under one roof. He was speaking after inaugurating the first cultural night of Holi Festival at historic Chaugan of Sujanpur, yesterday evening.

Chief Minister announced for opening Primary Health Centers at Utpur and Chowri for providing better health services to the people of the remote areas of the Sujanpur. Besides, a Police Post would also be set up at Tauni Devi and if required, a Sub-Divisional Office would be opened at Sujanpur after seeking report from District Administration.

Chief Minister said that Sujanpur Holi festival was not only famous in our State but in entire Northern India and it was a matter of pride that its rich traditions were being followed till today. He said that this festival was being celebrated since the time of erstwhile ruler Maharaja Sansar Chand.

It was Maharaja Sansar Chand who gave this festival a look of Folk Festival on the pattern of Holi festival of ‘Brij’, said the Chief Minister, adding that apart from its historic and religious significance, this festival was also linked with well-being and prosperity of people of the area as it promotes tourism and trade also.

Virbhadra Singh said that the famous school of Kangra Painting started and flourished during the reign of Maharaja Sansar Chand and was acclaimed worldwide for its rich use of colours. He said that State Government was striving hard to preserve and promote culture and traditions of the State and exhorted the people to extend their cooperation in this regard. Chief Minister also released a souvenir on the occasion.

Earlier, local MLA Rajender Rana welcomed the Chief Minister and expressed his gratitude for providing Nagar Parishad status to Sujanpur. Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman Holi Festival Committee Ashish Singhmar while welcoming the chief guests detailed about the various activities of four-day long Holi festival.

MLAs, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Sanjay Rattan and Yadvinder Goma, State Congress President Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chairman, H.P. Sports, Cultural and Environment Association, Vikramaditya Singh, Vice-Chairman, HRTC, Kewal Singh Pathania, former MLAs Manjeet Dogra and Kuldeep Pathania, District Congress President Sunil Bitoo, Nagar Parishad Chairman Manoj Kumar and other prominent persons of the area were also present on the occasion.
