The Executive Council (EC) of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has decided to put on hold declaration of result of interviews held for filling over 37 teaching posts in various departments. The emergent meeting of the EC was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof ADN Bajpai.

The new members of the EC, MLAs Bamber Thakur, Harish Janartha and Chander Shekhar, demanded that the results of the interviews held last year should be withheld. The selection of 37 teachers in the departments of mathematics, psychology, political science, chemistry and some others had been made by the selection committee.

EC member Harish Janartha raised doubt over the selection of these teachers and alleged that screening committee had acted with mala fide intentions. He added that this matter has already been placed before the Court and is listed for hearing later this week.

During this meeting, student leaders of BJP supported ABVP protested against it and also clashed with the supporters of Harish Janartha’s at the university campus. ABVP leaders claimed that they were trying to submit memorandum to Executive Council, but one of member Chander Shekhar tore it. ABVP leaders protested it and it took ugly scene when Harish Janartha’s supporters responded to it with force. Police had to intervene to disperse them.
