A spokesman of State Government here said that Agriculture Department would organise ‘Organic Fair and Food Festival’ at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Shimla from 28th June to 30th June 2013. He said that International Centre for Organic Agriculture and Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) were the partners in this event.

He said that the aim of organising this fair was to create awareness regarding organic farming and organic products amongst farmers and the people. The main attractions of this event would be Organic Food Court of Himachali organic cuisine by HPTDC, exhibitions in which different farmers groups and organisations will display and sell their organic products, workshops, seminar and exposure visits of the farmers of the State in the fair to acquaint them with this niche area besides organic farmers groups would also exhibit their products in the fair, he added.

He said that National and International Companies engaged in marketing of organic produce and organic certification would take part. Besides, discussion and workshop on organic agriculture focussing on strength of the State in the organic farming would also be the main attraction for the farmers as well as certification and marketing agencies. CSK Agriculture University Palampur shall also be setting up its stalls highlighting research and development in organic agriculture.

He said that 25729 farmers had been registered for organic farming, adding that for marketing of their produce facility for discussion with the marketing agencies would be arranged.
