Political heat in Mandi parliamentary constituency at its highest point and both political arch rival Congress and BJP are trying to be only development oriented party in the state. With the strong, more then 40 national and state leaders, BJP has started its campaign and its candidate Jai Ram Thakur will file his nomination paper today at Mandi. On the other side Congress candidate Pratibha Singh has filled her nomination paper and along with CM Virbhadra Singh, she is toiling hard to get electorates nod in this by-poll.

HP Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is also trying his best to woo electorates in Congress’ candidate favor and holding rapid public meetings in the segment. In his recent public meeting at Bali Chowki, Chief Minister claimed that the Seraj region, which is the home segment of BJP candidate Jai Ram Thakur, had tasted development during the Congress regime.

Virbhadra said that he was familiar with the problems of the people of the constituency as he had trekked the area when there were no roads there. Today, the Congress had linked the constituency by links roads and opened schools and dispensaries for the welfare of the people there, he claimed.

Virbhadra Singh said June 23 was his birthday and added that he would like victory of the party as a birthday gift from the people of the Mandi parliamentary constituency. He claimed that the BJP had no base in Seraj and was benefiting for disunity of Congress party. He asked party workers to unite and again prove party strength in Seraj.

Congress vice-president Harsh Mahajan, District president Puran Chand and Banjar MLA Karan Singh also criticised the BJP and claimed that the Congress would win the seat by a huge margin.

On the other hand, BJP candidate Jai Ram Thakur while addressing meetings in Seraj accused Congress for discriminated against Seraj. He claimed that only after his representation in Vidhan Sabha, Seraj region has tested overall development. He urged electorates to stay away from the trap of Congress false promises.
