Chief Parliamentary Secretary I. D. Lakhanpal, while presiding over district-level function at Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district, said that State Government had made a provision of nine percent of total budget of the State for tribal areas and Rs. 51.34 crore had been allocated for different developmental schemes under Tribal Sub-Plan in Lahaul-Spiti district during this fiscal year.

He said that special emphasis was being given for providing social security pension to poor and needy people and 10,000 houses would be constructed during this financial year for poor and homeless in the State.

Local MLA Ravi Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Beer Singh Thakur and other prominent persons were present on the occasion.

Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Forest Minister presided over the district-level Independence Day function at Chamba and while addressing the people at Chamba Chaugan, Bharmouri said that provision of Rs. 132 crore had been made for afforestation and wild life activities. He said that target of plantation in 17,500 hectare land had been fixed during this fiscal year under which 34 lakh mandays would be generated. He said that six sterilization centres would be set up to check monkey menace, besides setting up monkey centres in different areas of the State.

Forest Minister also honoured people for doing exemplary work in various fields.

Local MLA B.K. Chauhan, District Congress President Surender Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam, senior officers and prominent persons of the district were present on the occasion.
