Shimla: Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma said here today that the Government of India had approved a Rs. 3.85 crore project for rehabilitation of Street Vendors in the area of Municipal Corporation, Shimla under Challenge Fund Programme of Ministry of Urban Development.

Under the Project 222 shops were proposed to be constructed alongwith car parking space for 50 to 60 vehicles on roof top besides public convenience at each floor having provision of rain water harvesting structure with solar passive design, fire escape routes, two lifts, solar heating and lights, SWM (Dovetailed with JNNURM and door to door garbage collection and earth quake resistant design.

Sudhir Sharma said that the roads and streets of Shimla would be congestion free for the public movement on the completion of the project.

He said that street vendors would have organised and permanent space for earning their livelihood with being disturbed. This would also enhance the earning potential for street vendors as well as revenue for Municipal Corporation Shimla.
