Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today celebrated the 128th Establishment Day (Sthapana Diwas) of Indian National Congress here at Rajiv Bhawan Shimla, State Congress president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the function.

Addressing party workers on the occasion, Sukhu said that Congress party is today celebrating its 128th Establishment Day which is proud moment for party leaders and workers.

Sukhu believed that the Congress party has played a major role in maintaining the unity and integrity of India and party is firm in its resolve to continue to protect the unity and integrity of the country in future also. He said that the party has played a major role in the independence of the country and after independence, the party has introduced various developmental schemes in the country that led to the creation of a modern India, he added.

The Indian national Congress was established on December 28, 1885 by A.O. Hume and Vomesh Chandra Banerjee was the first president of the party at that time. The Congress party has been led by great leaders as Dadabhai Naoroji, Mahatma Gandhi, popularly called as ‘Father of Nation’, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Vipin Chandra Pal, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, J B Kripalani, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Mahadev Desai, Subhash Chander Bose, Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Indira Gandhi and many more over the period of its 128 year old history.

The 128th Establishment Day of the party was attended by General Secretary Harbhajan Singh Bhajji, Vice President Geeta Negi, Treasurer Surender Chauhan, Spokespersons Naresh Chauhan, Deepak Sharma, Executive member Mahendra Chauhan, DCC Shimla (Rural) President Kehar Singh Khachi, DCC Shimla (Urban) President Pradeep Singh Bhujja, Ex Mayors of MC Shimla, sitting councillors and ex-councillors of MC Shimla and members of Congress Sewa Dal, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, INTUC, Convenor and Co-convenor of Congress Pensioners Department and activists of NSUI.
