Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has authorized HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd to implement Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS) for Loanee farmers. The WBCIS will be implemented for Rabi, 2013-14 for Apple in Narkanda (Tehsil Kumarsain) and Rampur (Tehsil Rampur) of Shimla District and Nirmand (Tehsil Nirmand) in Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh. All the products under Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme are approved by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Himachal Pradesh.

The WBCIS offers insurance cover against losses of farmers due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle. The claim amounts will be settled on the basis of data taken from reference weather stations mentioned in the Scheme and managed by independent third party organization. The Products under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme are approved by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
