A workshop on solid and liquid waste management in rural areas under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan was held at Himachal Pradesh Public Administration Institute, Fairlawan, Shimla, today. Additional Chief Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Upma Chaudhary presided over the workshop.

The main concept of the workshop is to provide valuable information of Technological options for solid and liquid waste management and sensitize the people for their best use in rural areas. The Pradhans of leading three Gram Panchayats which excelled in Nirmal Abhiyan viz GP, Nauni of Solan District, GP, Chamyana of Shimla District and GP, Dalchera of Hamirpur District were invited to share their views on the subject.

To achieve the target of Nirmal Himachal, Chaudhary appealed to the delegates to take appropriate measures for solid and liquid waste management, with active participation and planning by the people at village level. She said that NGO’s had been doing commendable job earlier also and appealed to involved NGO’s to achieve the target of total sanitation abhiyan in the State.

Director, Rural Development J.C Chauhan welcomed and thanked the representatives of Government of India and all subject experts for their participation and gave their valuable suggestions in the workshop.

Additional Director, Rural Development Priyatu Mandal conducted the proceedings of the workshop.

Representatives of Asian Development Bank, Indian Institute of Technology, Jai Prakash Information Technology University, IIT Mandi, National Urban Affair Institute, Delhi, Officers of Irrigation & Public Health and Panchayati Raj Department were also present in the workshop.
