Shimla: Himachal Pradesh University’s Executive Council (EC) approved an amendment in Section 35.20 of the university laws seeking to debar the teachers from taking part in active politics and contesting elections.

The Vice chancellor of HPU, ADN Bajpai said that the teachers should concentrate on teaching and the university would also explore the possibility of imposing restrictions on active participation of teachers in NGOs.

The executive council also discussed the recommendations of Resource Mobilisation Committee but deferred decision over fee hike till the next meeting of the Committee.

EC also made recommendations to the government for removing the study centres of the state wherein the other states universities courses were being run simultaneously and also approved the public-private participation model at the university and the introduction of self-financing courses through private institutions and centres in the state.

Executive Council also gives its node to college teachers, fulfilling UGC qualifications, to become the guide for PhD courses.

The council approved introducing new courses and subjects and also gives approval to establish more ICDEOL study centres in the state.
