Renuka Dam: Govt to ensure to pay compensation to original land owners

To ensure transparency in compensation payment to the original land owner whose land are being acquired for the construction of Renuka Dam Project and not to General Power of Attorney (GPA)/SPA holders, the Himachal Pradesh Government has issued directions to the Deputy Commissioner Sirmaur and ordered him to ensure transparency in the compensation payment.

The state government has received complaints from different quarters that an impression was being created in the general public that amount of compensation of the land to be acquired or has been acquired for construction of Renuka Dam Project would be paid to GPA/SPA holders and not to the original land owner.

Even, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, during Parliamentary election campaign, had promised to ensure transparency in compensation to the Renuka Dam oustees. He had also advised land owners not to vest their land in name of others by transferring power of attorney.

Chief Minister had accused BJP leaders for indulging in illegal sale and purchase of land and warned them to stop luring the people of handsome return of their land.

In the latest Union budget, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has announced Rs.50 crore to speed up construction of a Renuka Dam Project for providing long standing solution of water to the national capital.
