The Himachal Pradesh Election Commission will conduct special summary revision of electoral rolls by treating 1st January, 2014 as qualifying date for holding by-elections of vacant posts of various office bearers in Panchayati Raj Institutions.

Any eligible persons who have attained the age of 18 years as on 1st January, 2014 and were bonafide residents of the concerned Panchayat could apply to Revising officer for registration of their names in electoral rolls.

This application can be submitted before 9 days of last date of receiving stipulated nomination papers of the State Election Commission.

A Spokesperson of the State Election Commission said here today that one post of Zila Parishad each in Kangra and Kinnaur districts was lying vacant. In addition to this, 13 posts of Members of Panchayat Samiti, 32 posts of Pradhan, 24 posts of Up Pradhan and 161 posts of Members of Gram Panchayat were also vacant in the State. He said that the Commission would soon announce election programmes for filling up these posts.

Similarly, a special summary revision of electoral rolls for holding by-election in ward number 6 of Nagar Panchayat Sarkaghat would also be conducted where revision of electoral rolls would be conducted on the basis of 1st January, 2014 as qualifying date. He said that the eligible persons can submit their application before 8 days of last date of receiving prescribed nomination papers of the Commission.
