Virbhadra Singh assures all possible assistance to Tangnu fire victims

Rohru: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today visited the fire ravaged remote Tangnu village of Rohru sub-division in Shimla district and assured all possible assistance to those who were rendered homeless in devastating fire which broke out on the night of 14th January and gutted houses and livestock.

The Chief Minister directed the forest department to provide adequate timber-wood for construction of houses for the residents of village Tangnu.

Virbhadra Singh said that the government would also provide additional financial assistance to rehabilitate the families rendered homeless and directed the Deputy Commissioner to give an equal amount of financial assistance to all the 54 affected families.

He said a community centre would also be constructed in the village. He also directed for construction of link road upto the village and to construct Mahila Mandal Bhawan at Tangnu and provide all necessary infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also urged people to maintain sufficient gap between houses while constructing the houses and asked them to keep separate provision for storing fodder for the livestock.

He also listened to the grievances of the people and directed the administration for early redressal of their grievances.

Deputy Commissioner Rohan Thakur briefed the Chief Minister that a sum of Rs. 71 lakh had been so far distributed to the affected families. Apart from this fuel, fodder and ration including blankets, feed for animals, utensils were also distributed to the people.

He said that the District Red Cross Society would bear the cost of books of the school going children and added that Rs. three lakh had been given from the District Red Cross Society.
