Shimla: Governor Acharya Devvrat emphasized that police personnel should work in a friendly manner and with full responsibility and they should be more practical while performing their duties to keep up the trust of the common citizens.

The Governor, while addressing a function on the first Raising Day of H.P. Police department, said the law and order always remains foremost priority of any civilized society and therefore police has an important role to play. It was matter of satisfaction that police had been performing its duties with responsibility in every sector, he further added.

The Governor expressed his concern over the fact that despite achieving development in every sector, the level of morality in the society had gone down. He also expressed worry over the rising cases of addiction in the younger generation adding that serious efforts should be made to check this menace.

He congratulated the police department for organizing its first Raising Day. He honored the outstanding sportsperson of the department on this occasion besides the media person.

DGP Sumesh Goyal welcomed the Governor and highlighted the main activities and programmes being carried out by the police department in the State.

Former Governor of Nagaland and former DGP Himachal Pradesh Ashwani Kumar, Chief Secretary V.C. Pharka and senior police officers were also present on the occasion.
