Shimla: The Election Commission of India today issued notification for the election of a Member to the Council of States by the elected members of H.P. Legislative Assembly.
The last date for filing nominations is 12th March, 2018 and the nomination papers would be scrutinised on 13 March while the last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for 22 March, 2018.
The election would be held on 20 March, 2018 between 9 AM and 4 PM and the entire election processes will be completed by 26 March, 2018.
The Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh is falling vacant on 2 April, 2018 on completion of term of Jagat Prakash Nadda.
The BJP is likely to re-nominate Jagat Prakash Nadda from the seat. While no name has yet came from the Indian National Congress. The BJP has a strength of 44 in the 68-member Assembly and the victory of the party candidate is certain.
